Northern Bank Charitable Foundation is pleased to present the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn with $250,000 Donation
The Northern Bank & Trust Charitable Foundation awarded $250,000 to the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn (the Club). The Club received the donation of $250,000 in support of its mission to assist children from low and moderate-income families to attend the Club with scholarships. Scholarship support is available to ensure that all youth and families can participate. Programs and activities are offered in three main priority outcome areas: academic success; healthy lifestyles; and good character & citizenship.
This will also support the Building Futures Campaign which will help complete a major renovation and expansion of the Club’s current Main Clubhouse facility. The current building has been in operation in Woburn for more than fifty years but needed a larger, more modern facility to serve the increased number of youths in our community. The cost of constructing and equipping the newly renovated and expanded facility will be $8.5 million dollars. The Club anticipates being open for kids and teens after Labor Day with increased program offerings and a more diverse array of activities.
Since our founding in 1960, Northern Bank has maintained the firm belief that a strong bank, invested in the towns we serve, financially strengthens local communities. In addition to the many hours our team members dedicate to organizations in our communities, Northern invests through the Northern Bank Charitable Foundation. Created in 2012, the Northern Bank Charitable Foundation provides financial support to non-profits and other community organizations that promote educational opportunities, youth, and social services or community development.
In 2016, the Northern Bank Charitable Foundation provided contributions ranging from $250 to $50,000 to more than 30 local organizations. We are pleased to donate $250,000 to the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn. Serving nearly 2,000 youth each year through Club membership and community outreach, they provide a positive alternative to the streets or being home alone through daily afterschool programming.
