Medford, Mass. – December 14, 2021 – Heading Home, a nonprofit agency that works to end homelessness, recently dedicated one of its emergency shelter and transitional housing centers to Northern Bank volunteers.
Last Friday, Bank employees and Heading Home staff members decorated the Medford Family Life Education Center with holiday lights, wreaths and more during a dedication ceremony.
The Medford Family Life Education Center is one of seven programs in Heading Home’s family shelter portfolio and provides help to eight families that are transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing.
Northern Bank partners with Heading Home through financial donations, volunteers and real estate and financial thought leadership.
“We firmly believe that housing is a basic necessity that everyone should have a fair opportunity at,” said Jim Mawn, President and CEO of Northern Bank. “Heading Home’s mission to fight homelessness directly aligns with the primary focus of the Northern Bank Charitable Foundation. We are proud of our ongoing partnership with Heading Home and thank our employees for their volunteer efforts. This recognition is well-deserved.”
Mawn, a Heading Home board member, delivered remarks at the building dedication, where a plaque was installed in the shelter. It reads: “In celebration of the employees of Northern Bank & Trust Company for all they do to support Heading Home.”
“Jim and his team have been stalwart supporters of Heading Home for years, but especially in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on our vulnerable clients,” said Danielle Ferrier, CEO of Heading Home. “In 2021, they donated $110,000 to fuel our mission delivery, and hosted volunteer engagements and donation drives with their employees. Jim’s sage leadership on our Board of Directors has contributed to our continued fiscal strength for the last three fiscal years and progressed our strategic plan implementation.”
