Woburn, Massachusetts, Jan. 25, 2022 – Northern Bank, a full-service community and business bank, today announced that it would begin accepting applicants for its annual $5,000 college scholarship award.
All graduating high school seniors, who have a parent or legal guardian employed as a police officer or firefighter in Middlesex County, are eligible to apply. Applications, which can be found here, are due by May 2, 2022.
“We are on the lookout for an outstanding high school senior with a strong track record in academics and community service,” said Jim Mawn, President and CEO of Northern Bank. “Our annual scholarship inspires local students to be their best inside and outside of the classroom. That’s why we are committed to making access to higher education a little easier in the communities we serve.”
The Northern Bank Charitable Foundation launched the James E. McGarry, Jr. Scholarship in 2014. It honors the late “Jim” McGarry, Jr., of Woburn, for his 50 years of service to Northern Bank and his lifelong appreciation for local fire and police departments.
Luke Witherell, a Littleton High School graduate and freshman at Chatham University, captured last year’s scholarship. He is now pursuing a career in the medical field.
