Stoneham, Massachusetts, July 26, 2022 – The Northern Bank Charitable Foundation awarded a grand total of $20,500 in grants to three local nonprofits with a little help from the community and one giant piggybank.
The summertime program - which called on residents and businesses to vote for their favorite local charity by dropping one of three tokens inside an oversized piggybank – concluded with the Stoneham Food Pantry earning the most votes and a $13,000 donation.
Second place went to the Stoneham Senior Center, which was awarded $5,000. The Boys & Girls Club of Stoneham & Wakefield finished third and took home $2,500.
Representatives from all three winning organizations recently gathered at Northern Bank’s Stoneham branch to celebrate. The $13,000 for the food pantry is a windfall, as the organization spent more than $1,500 last month on food for those in need.
Northern Bank has plans to use the 60-pound piggybank for more community giving this fall. Visit NBTC.com/learn for updates.
